News and Dev Logs

Team Lazerbeam writes like a studio that wants players in the room: monthly Steam and itch.io logs, festival booths, and blunt download numbers. This page is the news desk — localization, wishlists, Playtopia, the NorthernLion mention, and the June / July / August 2026 logs that lead into Early Access. Patch-by-patch demo notes live on demo updates. The ship date lives on Early Access.

The announcement trailer is the public pitch for that still-unreleased game. The rest of this desk is the paper trail that followed.

The full game is not out. Steam currently lists English as the interface language even where future translations have been discussed.

Localization: Simplified Chinese first, English on Steam now

The 16 June 2026 log is the localization beat. Programmer Kelly had spent months making the codebase translation-ready. The first named language was Simplified Chinese. The team asked the community which languages to do next and said regional wishlists would help.

That is an announcement of intent, not a live Steam checkbox. Store pages still show English. Do not expect the 14 May 2025 demo or the 10 September 2026 EA build to magically include every language on day one. When a language actually ships, it will be a patch note, not a rumor.

This wiki’s own language set is a fan site choice. It is not a Team Lazerbeam localization roadmap.

Wishlists: 80k, 100k, 200k+

Wishlist milestones are how the studio has measured hype:

  • August 2025: more than 80,000 wishlists, celebrated in the same log as the 0.4.77 demo update.
  • Later 2025: 100k wishlists (paired in logs with a Meta-jam and a 9-million-view social month on TikTok/Instagram).
  • 16 June 2026: 200k wishlists, with the log citing 206,233 people. The team called it surreal.

Wishlist the full game (app 3271280) on Steam even if you already own the demo. Those counters do not move on demo installs alone. See demo and wishlist.

NorthernLion (August 2025, historical)

The August 2025 itch/Steam log is titled around 80k wishlists, a demo update, and NorthernLion. Team Lazerbeam had been getting “the Egg needs this” comments since the prototype. NL played the demo; the studio said it was well received and pulled a new wave of roguelike players into the Gloom Patrol. That is a 2025 news item, not a 2026 patch. It belongs here because people still search it, and because it sits next to the Overwhelmingly Positive climb.

Playtopia (December 2025)

Playtopia is the South African indie festival Team Lazerbeam has attended since 2018. For Playtopia 2025 they built a physical Shroom and Gloom booth: a 12-meter tunnel meant to mimic the stacked, hand-drawn levels, opening into a mossy cave with three play stations and giant custom W and End Turn buttons.

The expo build mattered for more than photos. Along with a polished demo, it offered a public try of the first act of the second pathway — The Facility, the sci-fi dungeon. That was the first time a crowd could walk Facility rooms and fight with new cards. Early Access is where that path is supposed to exist as a real second route, not a booth slice.

The same December log framed 2025 as a peak year for an 11-year-old studio and mentioned award-show energy around the festival trip. Treat booth coverage as production news, not as a secret class unlock in your current Steam demo.

June 2026 logs (two of them)

June was deliberately noisy:

  • ~7 June 2026: PC Gaming Show participation, new trailer, Early Access announced for Q3 2026, huge demo update (see demo updates).
  • 16 June 2026: Next Fest, 200k wishlists, localization / Simplified Chinese announcement, reminder to play the mutated demo.

If you only read one June post you will miss either the date window or the language news. Read both.

July 2026 log

31 July 2026: “Charging towards Early Access, 100K Downloads & Demo Days.” Headlines:

  • 100k Steam demo downloads.
  • Six One Indie Demo Days selection.
  • Recap of June (EA, trailer, demo update, showcase, Next Fest, 200k wishlists).
  • A “one month of game dev in one minute” montage pointing at how little they had posted while crunching.

This is the log to cite for download counts. It is not the date reveal.

August 2026 log: the date

21–22 August 2026: Devolver premieres the Early Access diary; Team Lazerbeam’s log locks 10 September 2026. Launch pitch:

  • Two paths, unique card pools.
  • Five characters: Paperboy, Lunchlady, Concerned Parent, Janitor, Activist.
  • Quests to unlock characters and expand pools.
  • A reminder they had been sharing playable builds for years, so EA is a continuation.

They also pointed at Discord, TikTok, Instagram, Bluesky, YouTube, and Reddit — the same set collected on official links.

How to follow the next log

Steam news for app 3271280, the itch.io devlog, and Discord. Socials are for process clips (Unity layers, colour gradients, Deck FPS). When a September patch ships, it should get a new updates child, not a silent rewrite of this timeline.

Until then the news spine is short enough to memorize: demo May 2025, Overwhelmingly Positive / NL / Playtopia in 2025, June 2026 festival + 200k wishlists + Chinese localization intent, July 100k downloads, August 10 September date. Everything else is flavor. Everything after 10 September is a different article.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common Shroom and Gloom questions.

Is Simplified Chinese in the game now?

It was announced as the first upcoming localization in June 2026. Steam still lists English. Wait for a patch that actually enables it.

How many wishlists does Shroom and Gloom have?

The 16 June 2026 log cited 206,233. Check Steam for a live count; the team does not update this wiki.

What was Playtopia?

A December 2025 festival booth with a 12-meter tunnel and the public debut of The Facility's first act.

Did NorthernLion play Shroom and Gloom?

Yes. The August 2025 dev log says he played the demo and that it went well with his community. That is historical, not a 2026 patch.

Which 2026 log announced the 10 September date?

The August 2026 log, alongside Devolver's Early Access diary. June only announced a Q3 window.

Where should I watch for the next announcement?

Steam news and the Discord listed on official links. Monthly logs have been the studio's habit; that can change during EA crunch.
