Shroom and Gloom Map

Twenty-six tunnels, an improved map, camp warmth, and a Gloom door that punishes tourists.

Map Guide

The Shroom and Gloom demo is a handcrafted map, not an infinite seed. Official copy still says 26 tunnels, spore-swarming enemies, biome bosses, and eight hidden Foresight rewards. The June 2026 festival mutation added a prologue chapter, an improved map, expanded shops, a round-up screen, a new ending event at The Gloom, and an explore overhaul: light torches to camp, feed creatures, reveal, break, fix, unlock — and a warning not to overstay or The Gloom takes you. Enemies hit harder the deeper you go. Early Access is still scheduled for 10 September 2026. The full game is not out. This page is how to read the cavern you can walk today.

If you wanted a spoiler dump of every sprite, this wiki will not invent one. If you wanted the route mindset, pair this with the Demo Walkthrough. Install notes live on the demo hub. The verbs on the cards themselves live on the Explore Deck Guide. The Next Fest look embedded above is a real demo session, not a fake layout overlay.

What the improved map actually shows

The 2026 mutation made the map a tool you pull up instead of a rumor. Players in Next Fest footage read forks as labeled rooms, question marks, and gray-cap clusters, then walked toward a Foresight chest or a shop instead of guessing in the dark. You can open the map whenever the build allows. That does not mean every fork is equally good. It means you stop treating the dungeon like a hallway that only exists in front of your nose.

The map is still a first-person game. You look at a lock, a dig spot, a dummy, or a camp torch, then you play a card. The overlay does not play the hand for you. Use it to decide whether the next room is a Foresight, a biome you can actually dig, or a dead tourist loop. Then close it and spend energy. Unspent energy does not become a block card. There are no classic block cards. Headpoints, food, and warmth are how you survive the walk.

Prologue rooms exist to teach the new verbs before the 26-tunnel count starts feeling like homework. If your last demo session was 2025 bash-and-dig only, play the prologue again. Feed and camp are now part of the language. Room danger is part of the cost. Demo notes list the mutation; this page assumes you updated Steam app 3602770.

Twenty-six tunnels and going deeper

Tunnels are handcrafted. Names you will see include Mossy, Thorny, Trippy, and other biome labels that change which dig spots pay. Dig when the prompt says the dirt is unique. That is how tunnel-specific cards enter the explore deck. Forks will advertise Foresight on more than one path. You cannot grab all eight hides in a casual first clear unless you already know the layout. That is fine. A successful run lets you lock one Foresight you discovered for future explorers.

Going deeper is not flavor. The June 2026 notes said enemies grow stronger the deeper you go. Treat later tunnels like a rising tax, not like more of tunnel one with prettier moss. If your combat deck is still starter-shaped, the Combat Deck Guide and How to Eat Enemies are the fight manuals. If your explore hand is all keys and no rest, you will bash yourself to death on Headpoints before the map even shows the Gloom door.

Shops expanded in the same patch. Food is currency as well as a heal. Do not eat every Toasty the moment it appears if a shop you already mapped wants a snack in the bowl. Do not hoard every sandwich through a biome boss because you were saving for a counter you have not seen. The overlay does not print prices. It prints whether you can still reach the stall without The Gloom taking the room.

Biome bosses sit on the route, not off to the side. How to Beat Bosses is the exam sheet: stack Headpoints, bank food, keep the mushroom key for the actual door. The map will not pause the pack while you reread it.

Camp, torches, and warmth

The explore overhaul made camp a map decision. Light torches to camp in safety. Rest restores energy and draws a fresh explore hand. Rest spends warmth. Warmth is the camp stat that reduces hazard damage and the slow pressure of a room that is getting more dangerous. If the camp is cold, every extra turn is a tax. If the camp is hot, Paperboy’s extra-turn habit becomes the correct line instead of a dare.

Paperboy is the demo body. Fireballs can be fed for 2 Headpoints and Burning Sensation, and Burning Sensation adds 10 warmth while it stays in hand. That is a class lesson, but the warmth rule is universal: heat is time. Camp structures are explore cards you deploy. Ignite lines, including the starting campfire, convert a snack into rest time. Other Early Access characters — Concerned Parent, Lunchlady, Janitor, Activist — will bring other camps on 10 September. They are not the map you are walking in the demo. See the Characters Guide so you do not hunt a janitor closet on this cavern overlay.

Feed creatures when the prompt exists. Reveal, break, fix, and unlock are verbs, not a reason to carry four copies of every tool. The deck planner is the diet plan: one unlock tool, dummy access, a way to camp if you must linger. Lingering is the problem the next section is about.

Do not linger, or The Gloom takes you

Team Lazerbeam’s public highlight list for the 2026 mutation is not subtle. Do not overstay or The Gloom takes you. Room danger ticks up. Hazards hit harder when warmth is gone. The improved map exists so you can leave, not so you can catalog every mushroom cap. A Foresight chest is worth a detour. A third shovel in a cold room is not.

Think of the map as a clock. Each extra explore turn is a payment. Headbutting a lock spends Headpoints. Digging spends energy. Rest spends warmth. If you do all three in a room that is already ticking, you are sightseeing in a place that eats tourists. End the turn, take the fork you already chose, and keep Headpoints for the pack that sits behind the next door.

The Gloom door is a destination, not a side room. The mushroom key unlocks it. Ordinary keys and Headpoints bashes are for ordinary locks. When the map finally looks like an ending instead of another gray-cap cluster, pay the key, keep Headpoints for the last swings, and cook whatever is still moving. The new ending event is for players who reach that door. The updated round-up screen will throw numbers at you: enemies murdered, cards collected, food remaining. Then it will ask you to choose a Foresight for future explorers. Pick the passive you actually used. Compare leftovers later on the Foresight tier list.

The Facility is a second path with its own pool, scheduled to matter in Early Access, not as a secret wing of these 26 cavern tunnels. Path choice is on the Pathways Guide. Linux players who want the overlay to run at all should read Linux and Proton and system requirements before blaming the map for hitching. First-person look plus a card hand is controls. None of those pages replace the rule on this one: read the map, spend the energy, leave the room.

A clean demo map run does not look like a completionist screenshot. It looks like a Paperboy who lit the torches, fed what needed feeding, grabbed one Foresight they understood, and walked to the Gloom door before the dungeon decided the rent was due. The 26 tunnels will still be there tomorrow. The warmth in your camp will not.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common Shroom and Gloom questions.

How many tunnels are on the demo map?

26 handcrafted tunnels, plus a 2026 prologue chapter. Eight Foresight rewards hide on that route. See the Demo Walkthrough.

What did the improved map add?

The June 2026 mutation made the overlay more readable: labeled forks, question marks, and a reason to plan a Foresight or shop instead of wandering. It does not play your cards.

Why do later tunnels hit harder?

Official demo notes say enemies grow stronger the deeper you go. Treat depth as a tax. Combat habits are on the Combat Deck Guide.

What happens if I linger in a room?

Room danger ticks up. If you overstay, The Gloom takes you. Light torches, rest on warmth, then leave. Warmth rules are on the Explore Deck Guide.

Where is the Gloom door on the map?

It is the destination at the end of the demo route, unlocked with the mushroom key, not a wooden chest. How to Beat Bosses repeats that warning.

Is The Facility on this 26-tunnel map?

No. These caverns are the demo path. The Facility is a second Early Access route. Compare them on the Pathways Guide.
