Shroom and Gloom Early Access
10 September 2026 — two pathways, five characters, not 1.0.
Shroom and Gloom enters Steam Early Access on 10 September 2026. That is a dated, official window from Team Lazerbeam and Devolver Digital — not a leaked 1.0. The full game is still in development. If you only play complete games, wait. If you already like the demo’s two-deck eating loop, this is the paid next step, not the ending.
Wishlist and buy on the Steam full-game page (app 3271280). Platforms: Windows and macOS. Single-player. English interface on Steam today; other languages are a separate localization story on news.
What “Emerging into Early Access” actually says
Devolver’s diary Emerging into Early Access on September 10 (embedded above) is the public tour of classes and pathways. It is also a disclaimer reel: the game is mid-development, numbers will move, and trailer combos are not a patch-note contract.
Diary beats worth keeping:
- Paperboy remains the on-ramp: roast-friendly, survivable, the class demo players already know.
- Concerned Parent is the emotion/draw kit: Parental Instinct, Hysterical Strength, photo looks, Dad Reflexes, Mama Bear.
- Lunchlady leans on cooking, feed synergies, and a pet dog.
- The Facility is a second pathway toward The Gloom with its own cards, characters, and mechanics — not a reskin of the Forgotten Path.
- A third path is planned later in Early Access, not as a day-one promise.
Day-one roster: five characters, two paths
Steam’s August 2026 log lists five playable characters for the Early Access launch: Paperboy, Lunchlady, Concerned Parent, Janitor, and Activist. The diary names Paperboy, Concerned Parent, Lunchlady, and Janitor on day one and says more classes roll out during EA. This wiki records both statements because the build is still moving. Do not invent Janitor or Activist card lists. Do not assume Activist is hidden in the current demo.
Two separate paths to The Gloom, each with unique card pools, is the Steam log’s other pillar. The demo is one path (Forgotten Path / Paperboy’s tunnels). The Facility is the second. Steam’s EA FAQ says the current Early Access version is intended to ship in a “good, playable state” with about 300 explore and combat cards per pathway, plus quests, synergies, and unlocks.
That is a lot of cards and still not 1.0.
Steam Early Access FAQ (official wording, condensed)
Why EA? Team Lazerbeam has shipped prototypes and a free demo for years. They want the last stretch built with the same community loop.
How long? They plan 12 to 24 months in Early Access. That is a plan, not a store-enforced timer.
How will 1.0 differ? During EA they plan a new pathway, more character classes, and extra quests and challenges across all pathways. The diary’s third path matches that sentence.
Current state (their words): key features implemented; two pathways; ~300 cards per path; multiple quests and unlocks. Content is still in development. Expect bugs, missing VO, and balance swings. The demo’s own patch history (Spring into Action drawing only Fly Kicks, evolution bugs) is the preview of that process.
What you should not expect on 10 September
- A finished story with every ending locked.
- Console versions.
- Multiplayer.
- The entire 1.0 class list. Five names is the EA pitch, not a promise that every kit is equally deep on day one.
- A frozen card tier list. We will rewrite ranks when both pools are playable.
You should expect the same thesis: first-person tunnels, two decks, grow cards, eat enemies, Foresight passives, no conventional block pile. If that loop already clicked in the demo, EA is more of it with a second dungeon vocabulary.
How to prepare this week
- Confirm system requirements and motion comfort in the demo. First-person is not going away.
- Finish at least one 26-tunnel attempt so Paperboy’s verbs are muscle memory.
- Read characters for the named roster without fake kits.
- Wishlist 3271280 if you have not. Demo 3602770 is a different app.
- Join the Discord from official links if you want to report day-one bugs instead of screaming into a void.
Price, refunds, and “is it done enough”
Steam has not been used on this page as a fake price dump; check the store at purchase time. Early Access refunds follow Steam’s normal rules, not a special mushroom policy. The developers’ own FAQ asks you not to buy if you only want a finished game. Believe them. A 12–24 month EA is a long time to be angry that The Facility’s third act is thin.
After launch, on this wiki
This article stays the date and scope page. Patch notes will get new children under updates when they exist. We will not silently rewrite 10 September into a 1.0 ship date. When the third path actually drops, that is a new log, not a sneaky edit here.
Until the servers flip, the honest sentence is: Early Access on 10 September 2026, five characters, two paths, content still in development. Play the demo, wishlist the paid app, and treat the diary as a menu, not as a spoiler of every card you will own.
